Sehri Ideas: Easy and Healthy Meals and Recipes

A wholesome sehri (suhoor) is extremely important for the start of a fast. However, it’s not always easy to eat sehri because we don’t have the time, don’t feel like eating at sehri time or because we can’t think of anything new. Sharing some healthy sehri ideas that will help you break out of the rut!

Before I share the sehri ideas I do have to say that I miss those days when I would literally wake up five minutes before fajr time after ammie had been calling me downstairs for the past half an hour! My only job was to brush my teeth and gulp down the pre-made delicious sehri meal.

Anyways back to reality and my list of healthy sehri meals:

Banana-Date Smoothie

Blend together one cup yogurt + strawberries + blueberries (you can replace with any fruit you like) + 2 cups almond milk + 1 cup quick oats + 3 dates + 1 banana + 1 tablespoon hemp seeds (omit if you don’t have them). Leave in the fridge overnight and have in the morning for Sehri. A few variations can be that you can add chia seeds or peanut butter. This combined with two boiled eggs makes for a very healthy and sustaining sehri.

Boiled Eggs

Boil eggs the night before and leave on the counter. Take the shell off at sehri time and have with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Pheneyan

Pheneyan are a traditional and sustaining sehri. There is a reason they have been a classic sehri for generations.

Paratha-Egg

There are some of us who can not imagine sehri without paratha! Make sure you follow Jaffar’s method for the ultimate paratha! Make the peras before hand to reduce your work.

Do have paratha with egg. Avoid eating meat at sehri time because that will make you thirsty later in the day.
