Alberta is a beautiful province in Canada that I love calling home. With the news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might be honeymooning in Jasper, Alberta, there is buzz around tourism in the province again. But did you know that Bollywood has featured the beautiful mountains and lakes of the Canadian Rockies too? Here is a list of Bollywood movies shot in Alberta. A big thank you to my friend Sadia from Nazli Events who helped me put together this list.
1. Tum Bin (2001)
Tum Bin became quite famous back in the day even though it had a brand new cast. What I remembered from the movie was that it had a lot of snow! Little did I know then that the movie was shot in Calgary and around Alberta!
Now that I saw the movie again, I definitely saw lots of familiar locations like Calgary Tower in the picture below!
2. Hum Ko Dewana Kar Gaye (2006)
From the airport scenes to the freezing mountain tops in Banff, you will see many familiar Alberta locations in this movie starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.
3. Koi Mil Gaya (2006)
One of the more popular Bollywood movies shot in Alberta is ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ starring Preeti Zinta and Hrithik Roshan. You can spot many familiar mountain peaks and turquoise lakes Alberta is famous for in the songs!
4. The Hero: Love Story Of A SPy (2003)
This Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Priyanka Chopra starrer has many scenes shot in Calgary and Alberta.
5. Dus (2005)
Dus, the movie staring Zayd Khan and Abhishek Bachan was probably more famous for the song “Dus Bahane Kar Ke Le Gaye Dil” and was shot in Calgary.
6. 8 x 10 Tasweer (2009)
This Akshay Kumar and Ayesha Takia Azmi starrer is another one of the Bollywood movies shot in Alberta.
7. Sanam RE (2016)
If you haven’t heard of this movie, don’t worry neither had I! But hey, it was shot in Alberta too.
8. Hamara Dil AApke Paas Hai (2000)
I was watching this movie on Netflix and thought some of the scenes looked familiar. Lo and behold, a quick google search showed that the movie was indeed was one of the Bollywood movies shot in Alberta!
9. International Khilari (1999)
Akhsay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna starred together in International Khilari that was shot in Calgary (even though Akhsay Kumar is saying that he is in Brampton in the scene below! Caught you Mr. Khilari because we can see the Calgary Tower pretty clearly in the background)! Is Calgary the town they fell in love with as they shared in Coffee with Karan? Hmmm, interesting!
I’m sure this is not an exhaustive list, so let me know if you know of more Bollywood movies shot in Alberta! Would love to add to this list. Again a big thank you to my friend Sadia from Nazli Events who helped me put together this list.
Have you visited any of the places shown in these movies?
