We were hosted by Mount Engadine Lodge in Spray Valley Provincial Park for two nights in October and had a wonderful time. The lodge is one of the few ways to enjoy a backcountry experience accessible by car. Here is my detailed review of a great all-inclusive in Alberta.
We also made a YouTube video if you would like that:
Staying at Mount Engadine Lodge: All-Inclusive in Alberta
This Mount Engadine Lodge review is quite image intensive! It’s just that pretty! You have been warned.
Getting there:
Mount Engadine Lodge is two hours from Calgary, and the route is open all year around. The last 20 minutes of the road is a bumpy gravel road, but the other roads are great. Do download the route on your phone before you leave so that it’s available off-line. There are many patches on the road where mobile signals are not available.
It was snowing both days we went and came back and I drove both ways. Was totally OK.
Accommodations:
We stayed in the glamping tents at Mount Engadine lodge and loved the comfort of the heated tents. There is even an attached washroom with hot running water and luxurious Rocky Mountain products.
The view was just gorgeous!
The glamping tents have extremely creative names such as the one we stayed in: Wolverine. Also loved the name: The Writer’s Studio!
There are five glamping tents on site. Next to each other. There is quiet time after 10pm.
If you want a quieter experience, you can also stay inside the main lodge that has gorgeous suites.
Here is a look inside the glamping tent, which was comfortably equipped with a bed, lamps, table, shelves and carpets.
There is also a sofa bed, that the staff had pulled out for us, for the two kids to sleep in at night.
Here is another look inside the tent with the sofa bed folded. The propane stove keeps the tent warm and toasty.
Mount Engadine Lodge also has cabins with gorgeous views into the valley that you can also stay in. So there are lots of options to stay based on your preference.
Food:
The delicious food at Mount Engadine Lodge is one of the highlights of the experience. Chef Justin is awesome!
The lodge offers an all-inclusive experience and there are 4 meals included with a one night stay: afternoon tea after checkin, dinner, breakfast and lunch sandwiches-to-go!
We shared our dietary preferences before our stay and they were all catered. There were always vegetarian and sea-food options available for us.
This is the wonderful afternoon tea spread we were treated to! The children could choose between juice or hot chocolate.
There was also delicious dessert to follow!
I mean look at this brownie!
For dinner, we started off with a yummy salad.
We enjoyed this most delicious tuna with vegetables as the main course. The children enjoyed the meal also (the staff put the sauce on the side as requested by us). They offered to make a simple pasta for the children also and we took them up on the offer on the second night.
We finished off dinner with a delicious dessert.
Breakfast starts off with coffee and a fruit cup for everyone!
We really enjoyed our omelettes and the kids loved their waffles.
At breakfast time, you can fill a form to choose sandwiches for lunch-to-go.
Loved the personalized sandwich bags. Wolverine was the name of our glamping tent (and is not our secret last name)! The bread for the sandwiches is made in-house and so good!
For dinner Chef Justin made a simple pasta for Hussein with vegetables on the side. I love how kid-friendly the lodge is!
I enjoyed this tomato-basil soup as an appetizer.
For dinner, I got this yummy fish even though chicken was on the menu for the other guests.
I loved how all our dietary preferences were taken care of.
Experience:
Hot chocolate and coffee are always available at the lodge and part of the all-inclusive.
The service is world-class and the staff extremely attentive. Anna was one of our most favourite servers.
There are lots of hikes and walks to enjoy in the back country.
This meadow just by Mount Engadine Lodge is breathtaking!
This swing on the property is so much fun!
It was truly relaxing to not worry about the logistics of food and just enjoy the scenery.
Have you ever eaten in a dining room under a canoe?
One of the best ways to enjoy the lodge is to take it easy.
The sitting rooms available for guests are super comfy! There is even a piano available in this one!
Since you’re in the backcountry there are no mobile signals. The main lodge has a weak wifi. It’s great to be away from technology and enjoy the wonderful hospitality at the lodge.
The all-inclusive experience makes the logistics so much easier. You don’t have to worry about paying for every meal or where to order it from. Every meal we had at the lodge was delicious!
I would highly recommend Mount Engadine Lodge for a truly relaxing experience! Do check it out here.
