I don’t ever remember standing on the scale in my 20s. Metabolism and luck was on my side! I I could eat just about anything, pull all-nighters and maintain many unhealthy habits. However, since I have entered my 30s, I have noticed many transitions and have had to make many an adjustments in my life style. For example, those fried chicken lunches don’t disappear like they used to and appear in many a places on my body! If you can relate to these struggles, read 9 tips to embrace your 30s (and beyond). Would love to hear your tips too!
1. Regular Exercise
You might have survived your 20s without regular exercise (yes, even those dance practices for a friend’s dholki would do for cardio), but you need to be active in your 30s to stay healthy. Start small but be regular. Make time for at least three sessions of exercise for 30 minutes each. You might have specific goals when you start such as loosing weight however have a long term plan where you incorporate exercise in your life.
2. Good quality sleep
Did you know that not getting the right amount of sleep contributes to weight gain? Good quality sleep is essential for well-being especially in your 30s. So make sure you get 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night!
3. Water!
Keep up your water intake by keeping it in a bottle so you keep track of how much water you drink. Drinking lots of water is great for your skin, general health, etc.
4. Good skin care regime
It’s more important to be consistent in your skin care regime, rather than investing in expensive products. Cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin. Put on sunscreen whenever you go out. Use anti-aging cream regularly at night.
5. Annual medical checkups
Take care of your health by having a thorough medical checkup every year. Do make sure you know about all hereditary diseases in your family and inform the doctor in the medical history.
6. Importance of deep friendships
30s is a time for deep and few friendships instead of many friends who you are not close to. Sincere friends are an asset as we grow older and great for our soul.
7. Less is more!
Declutter your life. Instead of over-scheduling, make time for peace and quiet as you embrace your 30s (and beyond).
8. Eating a Balanced diet
A balanced diet that included proteins, vegetables, whole grains, fruits, dairy and lots of water is essential. Make sure half of your plate is vegetables, 1/4 protein and 1/4 whole grains.
9. More Fiber
Adding more fiber in our diet is great for many reasons: it keeps us regular, is great for digestive health, but also helps in maintaining a healthy weight and lowering the risk of diabetes and heart diseases.
My favorite way to increase fiber in my diet is to have two teaspoons of Fiberight in a glass of water before a meal. This helps me maintain smaller portions and still feel full. The best part?
